We're working with a leading pensions business to recruit a Senior Pensions Calculation Analyst — a pivotal role for someone who combines deep DB/DC technical expertise with a passion for precision, automation, and process excellence.
This is a chance to own the calculation development lifecycle end-to-end: from specification and testing through to quality assurance and legislative compliance. You'll act as a subject matter expert, mentor, and quality gatekeeper across a high-performing Business Solutions Team — with the variety, responsibility, and scope to make a genuine impact. Developing and maintaining the methodology for calculation development, from specification through to testing and sign-off.
• Producing detailed calculation specifications from scheme rules, technical documentation, and legislation, including result writebacks, letter and web automation, and test packs
• Conducting thorough testing of developer outputs prior to UAT, and documenting findings for business and client review
• Peer reviewing work completed by other team members to ensure accuracy and consistency
• Analysing calculation errors, identifying root causes, and recommending improvements
• Collaborating with Project Managers and CRMs to scope tasks, estimate effort, and manage timelines
• Managing relationships with third parties such as scheme actuaries and legal teams on complex technical queries
• Supporting and deputising for the Lead Pensions Calculation Analyst as needed
What we're looking for:
• Extensive experience in pension administration and calculations analysis, with a strong grounding in DB retirement, transfer, and death calculations
• Solid Defined Contribution knowledge alongside a sound understanding of current pensions legislation
• Proven ability to interpret complex scheme rules and translate them into technically robust specifications
• Advanced Excel skills — complex formulas, analysis tools, and data manipulation
• Experience with pension administration systems and a high level of IT literacy
• Strong project management awareness, including delivery to specification, time, and budget
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical, detail-oriented approach
• A-Level or GCSE English and Maths (grades A–C or equivalent)
The kind of person who'll thrive in the role:
You're self-driven and comfortable working autonomously, but you bring strong collaborative instincts and clear communication to everything you do. You can balance multiple priorities without dropping the ball on quality, and you genuinely enjoy staying ahead of legislative developments in the pensions world. You're as comfortable mentoring junior colleagues as you are digging into a technically complex scheme rule.
