The Pensions Management Institute (PMI) is the professional body which supports and develops the experts who run UK pension schemes. It is acknowledged throughout the industry as the body for establishing, maintaining and improving professional standards in every area of pension scheme management, consultancy and trusteeship.
PMI was formed in 1976 to promote professionalism amongst those working in the field of pensions. The PMI is a non lobbying professional body but works with government and other bodies in the financial sector to ensure the views of members are put forward in a sound and impartial manner.
Today PMI is at the very heart of the pensions industry with a membership of some 5,000 pension professionals and trustees, which includes many of the thought leaders who drive retirement provision in this country. Some £1 trillion is invested in UK pensions, so its members have a vital role to play in shaping the nation’s financial future. With over 30 years of successful operation behind it, the PMI is committed to ensuring that pension professionals and trustees achieve pensions excellence.
Membership of the Institute is on an individual basis and is open to those with experience in any aspect of pension scheme management, consultancy or administration. PMI members work for a wide range of companies including pensions consultancies, occupational pension schemes, insurance companies, accountants, actuaries, independent trustees and law firms.
There are four grades of membership reflecting the different levels of experience and qualifications in pensions; Student, Ordinary Member, Associate and Fellow.
All Members of the Institute, Fellows, Associates, Ordinary Members and Students, are required to adhere to the PMI Code of Professional Conduct.
In addition to membership and the granting of qualifications, it offers a full range of support services for ongoing personal development including a range of publications, a heavyweight programme of national and regional events, a network of nine Regional Groups, an interactive online TV channel, and an online careers service.
